Introductions, Foodventures and Community

We have finally met our host family the Criostomos's! They are a wonderful family and we can't wait to move in with them! We met Ate Eloi and Kuya Cris at a chinese restaurant with our new friends Oliver and Ann. We had already tried the salmon head soup and things so we got very adventurous at this meal.

These are pictures from the meal, Click the read more button to hear all about what is in the pictures and what we have in store this next week.

We started off with Mango Shakes which come in green and yellow. The green ones are very sour and the yellow ones are more sweet. I got the sour and Rachel got the sweet one.

Then Ate Ann ordered us some appetizers. We had shark fin dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and some BBQ chicken feet. The shark fin dumplings were very delicious and not at all tough like I thought they would be. The shrimp here is so amazing! Waaaay tastier than in the states!

OK I'm not gonna lie. I was actually pretty nervous about the chicken feet. I saw how Ate Ann ate it and went for it! It was just like eating chicken wings, just a little bit harder because I was using chop sticks instead of just my fingers like we do with wings. Delicious! or like they say here, Sarap!

Then we had what is know as hot pot. They put some boiling chicken broth on the table and add the ingredients of your choosing. We had crab, red snapper, prawns and to fu and vegetables that I didn't even know what they were called. You let it boil on the table for a bit and then everyone fills their bowls. It was very good! We love the seafood here!

P.S. This is quickly becoming a culinary blog of the Philippines! These have been rest days so it seems like we have just been out having fun and going to dinner, but we promise there is real work coming!

So this morning we got up and attended church with our host family at their church, Victory Pioneer. The worship service was great and we really enjoyed the message. It was about Philip and the Ethiopian eunic. It was kind of nice because through the sermon we just felt like God was confirming our call to use communications as a way of spreading the Good News!

Then after the service we got to go to the Criostomo home. It is wonderful and we enjoyed a lazy Sunday afternoon just learning about them and sharing with them as well. We got to play with Nash who is their 3 yr old. He loves pillow fights!

Tomorow we get to start our orientation process so I'm sure we will have some more pictures coming in! We keep forgetting our cameras!

Thanks for reading,
Colin
