Current Media Projects

Colin and I are keeping our skills sharp while we wait for our service with Monsoon Communications. I've been especially into photography lately while Colin has been doing a bit of Illustration while experimenting with photography, and making some music videos for a local band.  I thought I would share some of what we're working on. Metro Manila

Metro Manila is the area of the Philippines we will be moving to in July. We have started to do some research about this area, and would like to share it with you.

There are 16 different cities that compose this region, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasay, Pasig, Parañaque, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, Valenzuela. It is the political, economic, social, cultural, and educational center of the Philippines.

This area is a region of economic extremes however. There are gated communities and extremely nice westernized homes and business districts, and then there are slums and illegal homes scattered through out other areas. Many vacant properties have illegal settlements on them.

English is spoken by most people however they also speak a language called Tagalog, pronounced (Tah-Gal-Og). We are looking to pick up some Tagalog before we get there.

This is a sample of some Tagalog Characters

The Philippines have been occupied by many different countries at one time or another. The Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, British, and Americans have all at one time or another occupied this area. As a result there is a real melting pot of culture there. In fact some left over jeeps from World War II have actually been re purposed into what they call Jeepenes.  And they use them for transportation.
We will Share more with you as we learn as well!

Blessings,
Colin & Rachel

Update 12/19/2010

Hey everyone,
Colin here. We have several updates to bring you!

First: We have started seriously looking at a place to go in July. Monsoon Communications is an organization that works with Wycliffe bases in Asia Pacific. They are located in the city of Manila, in the Philippines. They specifically provide media tools, and education to people at the bases associated with Wycliffe and SIL.  Rachel and I would get to do a variety of media projects there, as well as have the opportunity to get involved in a local church. Below are some links to check out to see what Monsoon Communications is all about. We are currently applying and praying to see if this is where God wants us.

Second: I will be teaching at our church, the 509, on Sunday January 2nd 2011. I'll be speaking on the book of Luke, so Rachel and I have started to read and study together in order to prepare.

Your prayers in these areas would be awesome!

Well, That's all for now! Take care!
Colin

Hello Everybody! This is Rachel, and I'm sooo pumped to have finally finished my senior project research paper. It's been a LONG time coming and I'm proud of what Kayla Beckner and I have accomplished. This is what has been consuming my life/mental capacity for the past few months. I hope you find it both informative and applicable to ministry. Click the read more button to read the paper!

Hello Everyone!

Hi,

We are Colin and Rachel Whitehurst. We got married on August 1, 2010 and long to serve the Lord together wherever we are. Colin graduated from Huntington University with an Animation Degree and Rachel is currently finishing up her missions degree. We will be going on an internship required for Rachels schooling somewhere this summer. the location is still yet to be decided.

We are currently living in Huntington Indiana serving at a church called the 509 (509community.com). Rachel is the youth director and is a Barista in the coffee shop. Colin helps with all of the various media aspects and plays drums on sundays.

Please Check back here often to see what we are up to. We will be posting things that we are learning, and keeping you current with various events that we get the take part in wherever in the world the Lord takes us!
