Daily life in Manila

Well, I think its time for another long blog post from yours truly! (Colin) I will put some pictures up and then you can click the read more button to see what all we have been up to this week!

So this week we have moved into our host families home, The Crisostomos, and have begun to work on a project which Rachel mentioned in a previous post. (check the previous post for pics!) We are pretty much done with that project which is nice, since we feel good about the quick turn around. I have been also working on a CSS/HTML email to distribute that video which has been a nice learning experience for me. (that last sentence was for the nerds who read this page)

Our daily routine has been waking up around 7am, getting ready, eating breakfast with our family which is usually rice and some meat and cereal, and then walking to work. We walk to the top of the hill out of the gate to our neighborhood and then we hop in a trike (motorcycle with a side car) which takes us to the street we work on, but then we have to walk a little ways down that street to get to our building. WE enjoy the walk even if it makes us really sweaty by the time we get to work.

At work I have been doing the project while Rachel gets to intermittently work on small projects/do homework for school. She has already read a whole book and written the report! She's intense!

Some days we bring lunch, like packaged noodles, and other days we go out to lunch with people for HOT POT!, or we get free lunch like that GINORMUS pizza like you see featured above! It was yummy!

Then around 6 we usually walk/ ride the trike home to enjoy our evenings with the Crisostomo family. It's hard telling what time everyone will be back every night since we are all so busy and the traffic here is NUTS!

We usually read or play on the computer before/after supper and enjoy hanging out with the kids.

Then we go to bed around 9 or ten and start the day over again! What is nice is that we have our own bathroom and aircon in our room, so we sleep pretty well!

Also we got a new camera to take pics here with. We found that we don't like carrying around our HUGE DSLR since we are walking and the backpack is too heavy. Randomly we got a great deal and even got some free stuff with our new tiny camera, so be excited, we will be taking more pics now!

This Friday we were super treated! We got 1hr massages that were awesome! They are way more inexpensive here, about $10/hr. It was phenomenal. The only bad part about my massage was that I forgot to visit the restroom before hand, so I felt nervous for the second half! Other than that it was great! Then we went out for some yummy dinner at I place I forget the name of. We had marinated beef which was really tasty and on the side was rice with a sunny side egg on top. Also there was a side of soup that was all you can, and was delicious! Rachel also had a soda called Sarsi that is kind of like root beer that was yummy.

Today is Saturday and shortly we are going to go see TRANSFORMERS! We are pumped. Later tonight we are going to cook a Mexican meal for our family! Should be fun!

Wednesday we fly to Malaysia for three months to help out with church engagement! We are excited! Please pray for us as we move in with a new family, and learn a new culture!

Well thanks for reading!
Until next time,
-COLIN
